Safe Air to celebrate 60th birthday in style

Safe Air is to celebrate 60 years of being in business next month.

A week of events, displays and activities will kick off on the 8th of November with Safe Air inviting customers, former staff and suppliers to join its Blenheim based celebrations.

Safe Air’s General Manager Heather Deacon is delighted to be able to share the company’s milestone birthday with the wider community.

“With six decades in aviation, Safe Air has an extensive history in the Blenheim region. The events we’ve planned will celebrate both our history and our exciting future,” says Ms Deacon.

“The birthday programme offers a virtual flight on the historic Argosy, memorabilia exhibitions, Bristol engine runs and the chance to hear from those running the business across the years about Safe Air’s past, present and future aspirations. There are also some special events for past and present Safe Air staff to catch up and share stories.”

The ability to transform and diversify has been the key to Safe Air’s success and is being recognised over the entire week. First formed in 1950, the Straits Air Freight Express (SAFE) evolved in 1967 to operate a passenger service. Five years later it became a subsidiary of NAC (National Airways Corporation) and subsequently merged with Air New Zealand.  From there it diversified into aircraft maintenance, repair, overhaul and technical design, establishing a worldwide reputation for excellence.

Local and industry media are invited to participate in the week of celebrations. The full range of events are listed online with registration details: www.safeair.co.nz
