Safe Air grows its Part 146 Design capability
Safe Air is expanding its capability for developing aircraft modifications and Supplemental Type Certificates (STC) for New Zealand civil aviation customers, as well as repair modification design activities.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of New Zealand has granted Safe Air Engineering Design team members Matthew Potts and Damian Scott Part 146 Design Delegations following recent Minister of Transport approval.
Matt and Damian are professional aviation design engineers specialising in structures. They also hold Delegated Engineering Authority (DEA) for RNZAF aircraft repairs.
This will allow Matt and Damian to design and or approve repairs to civil aircraft on the New Zealand register under Safe Air’s CAANZ Part 146 Design Organisation Certificate.
“Growing this capability in our team opens the way for us to carry out civil aircraft modification design work with CAA oversight,” says Design Manager Ray Harvey.
He says winning this approval is the result of a thorough process which satisfied the CAA of Safe Air’s expertise in aircraft repair and modification design, and its competence to hold design approval under the CAA’s authority.
Matt has worked for Safe Air for more than 11 years and Damian for more than nine years, on top of experience in other aviation organisations including Air New Zealand Technical Operations, Air Nelson, Altitude Aerospace Interiors and British Aerospace. Their roles also include support of Safe Air’s MRO activities for military customers.
Safe Air Limited Engineering Design’s capability portfolio now includes;
• Avionics systems, components and equipment, publication amendments
• Authorisation of new Drawings and drawing amendments
• RNZAF concessions, repair schemes, local manufacture and deviations including process deviations
• Engineering Design is also authorised to carry out the production of modification data and associated technical analysis and certification justification for the aircraft listed under the DEA provided that the package is submitted to the aircraft sponsor for final approval.
Safe Air holds EASA, FAA, NZCAA approvals and is certified ISO9001 and AS9100 compliant.
Safe Air also holds approved maintenance organisation status with the Royal New Zealand Air Force and the Royal Australian Air Force and is the primary heavy maintenance provider to the RNZAF.
The scope of its operations includes airframe, propeller, engine and component maintenance, repair and overhaul. Safe Air operates the aircraft maintenance facilities at Blenheim Airport, formerly the Royal New Zealand Air Force main aircraft repair depot.
